{"id":351,"date":"2006-06-10T19:25:21","date_gmt":"2006-06-11T00:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/?p=351"},"modified":"2006-06-10T19:25:21","modified_gmt":"2006-06-11T00:25:21","slug":"tour-de-nat-training-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/archives\/351","title":{"rendered":"Tour de Nat training: Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ever since I read about the <a href=\"http:\/\/nat.org\/2005\/july\/#PJSW\">infamous<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nat.org\/2005\/july\/#e^(2%CF%80i)-is-the-loneliest-number-that-you'll-ever-do\">Tour de Nat <\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/rlove.org\/log\/2005071601\">challenge<\/a>, I knew it was something I wanted to do.  In August, I will do it.<\/p>\n<p>I have <a href=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/images\/p8081378-my-bike.jpg\">the bike<\/a> and I have <a href=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/?p=348\">the system<\/a>, all I need now is a body capable of the task.  So a few weeks ago I started riding every weekend that the weather was good, of which there has been only one.<\/p>\n<p>This is the route I took two weekends ago:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marengo-ltd.com\/map\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image350\" src=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/06\/route1.jpg\" alt=\"route1.jpg\" \/><\/a> (31 miles)<\/p>\n<p>The link takes you to the mapping site I used.  Load <a href=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/gpx\/belmont-winchester2.gpx\">this GPX file<\/a> to see the route up close.  The route was quite good, although the first hill in Belmont at waypoint 15 kicked my ass.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be posting all of the routes I take on my way to Tour de Nat 2006, but I can&#8217;t guarantee quality choices.  I don&#8217;t have years of experience to rely on, so I&#8217;m using a combination of google maps and google earth to pick my roads. Google Earth sucks for determining elevation, however.  I&#8217;d prefer a real topographical map.  I&#8217;ll be steadily increasing the mileage until I can do 60 miles reliably.
