{"id":1475,"date":"2014-12-16T22:43:35","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T03:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/?p=1475"},"modified":"2014-12-16T22:43:35","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T03:43:35","slug":"hibernating-for-the-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/archives\/1475","title":{"rendered":"Hibernating for the winter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014-12-13-15.40.02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1476\" src=\"http:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014-12-13-15.40.02-1024x757.jpg\" alt=\"2014-12-13 15.40.02\" width=\"630\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014-12-13-15.40.02-1024x757.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ywwg.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014-12-13-15.40.02-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Things are quieting down on the work site now that the sun sets at 4:30 and the temperature is regularly near freezing.\u00a0 But that doesn&#8217;t mean we&#8217;re not still working on the tiny house!<\/p>\n<p>The most important thing I&#8217;ve been doing is checking and rechecking the tarps and weatherproofing.\u00a0 I have the tarp hanging pretty much down to a science now, so I no longer have problems with holes in the tarp or water collecting anywhere.\u00a0 It has even snowed once, so I could see that the tarp shouldn&#8217;t have any major problems with snow cover either.\u00a0 Most of the wood still in the yard is scrap.\u00a0 Anything that I will need has been moved into the house itself or underneath it.\u00a0 I bought a Junkster, which I will fill with scrap to clear out some of the mess.<\/p>\n<p>Char and I have been pushing forward on planning some of the eventual finishing details.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been working on a design for the vertical post that will go on our front porch, and we&#8217;re also moving ahead on having a master carpenter build our front door.\u00a0 Some time in January we&#8217;ll go to Ikea to look at counters for the kitchen.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll also start getting serious about ordering appliances and the windows, too.<\/p>\n<p>I also plan to do small pieces of work on the house itself &#8212; there&#8217;s still one more window to frame, for instance.\u00a0 Also I could cut out holes for the windows and affix the house wrap to help protect the structure from weather.\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t just want to leave it out there for 4 months without checking on it once in a while!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s obvious why most people try to build their tiny houses in one summer, but that was never a realistic possibility for us given our full-time jobs.\u00a0 I look forward to spring when we can finish the exterior and get rid of the tarp for good!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Things are quieting down on the work site now that the sun sets at 4:30 and the temperature is regularly near freezing.\u00a0 But that doesn&#8217;t mean we&#8217;re not still working on the tiny house!
