What

There is a beach 1/2 mile from the campsite, and this is where we will probably do our grilling and eating. We will have a real campfire!

Provincetown is about 5 miles down the road and is quite bikeable.

(other things to do??)...

Char sez: Do we want to try an experiment and play 1 long game of mafia that lasts the entire trip?

When

July 13 - 15 (Friday - Sunday)

Transportation

Car - Char

Char will drive and will be able to take 1 passenger. (Char notes: I want to leave in the a.m. maybe 10:30?, so I can pick up the fire permit before the station closes.)

Is there a bike rack? -- Libby

Bike rack is unlikely, unless Jesi's bike rack never made it to her new place -- Adam Katz 11:22, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
better take a look, i think it's MIA -- Jesi
All set with the bike. -- Libby

Food

Food Rules:

  1. No one will be in charge of food for the whole group.
  2. Instead, people should purchase food in small self-organized groups -- for instance, Char and Owen will buy food for two with only a small amount of surplus.
  3. We will assume we have some way of grilling hotdogs and hamburgers (Owen will try to work it out with Adam).
  4. We will also bring food that does not need to be cooked, eg sandwiches for lunch

I don't want people to see the big list of food and think that it will magically appear, so I've moved the wishlist that was here to a page called Camping Food Ideas. Please refer to the list for ideas.

Owen will be bringing a bag of charcoal and probably some sort of bricks or rocks to prop up the grill. Oh, and matches.

Adam will be bringing a bag of charcoal and maybe also some bricks or something, and either the chimney or some lighter fluid.

sticks? do we need sticks? (find in the woods?)

Utensils

Char will steal enough eating utensils from work for everybody!!:

  • plastic plates
  • paper napkins
  • plastic knives
  • plastic forks
  • paper cups

Miscellaneous Camping Stuff

Mike Burns has found a bunch of camping supplies in his basement but isn't sure what stuff not to bring. Here's the list; make a note if you have an opinion on an item. I only want to bring stuff that people plan to use.

  • 1 inflatable raft (two oars, one pump)
  • 1 canoe, one or two oars
  • 1 kayak
  • 2 white fuel lanterns
  • 1 car mount for holding four bicycles
  • 1 canopy (not sure of the size), held up by tall metal poles (not sure of the height)
  • 2 lighters
  • 6 boxes of matches
  • 1 tablecloth
  • 1 can insect repellent (Deepwoods Off)
    • I see no reason not to bring this. Mike-burns 15:30, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 can of white fuel
    • Desired if we bring the lanterns or stove. Mike-burns 19:01, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 Ten-foot tall trebuchet
    • uh, skippy -- i hope you're not strapping that to your bike for the 80mi ride... -- Adam Katz 13:43, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 badminton set, hopefully with some paddles (hasn't been opened in ~10 years)
  • 1 crap-tastic personal propane grill, with unknown quantity of propane (un-used since 2004)
  • 1 frisbee
  • 1-2 ultra-light aluminum pots

Kitchen Stuff

Make a note if you have an opinion on an item. These are all camping-durable items that you'd find in REI or the like; it's not stuff from my kitchen. I only want to bring stuff that someone plans to use.

(Update after washing these: I'm not convinced the silverware is REI-purchased; it seems like just extra silverware. Regardless, it's spare silverware that I don't mind getting dirty/destroyed.)

  • 1 portable white fuel stove Char sez: This might be worth bringing.
  • 1 metal, forked marshmallow holder/hotdog holder/trident Char sez: This might be worth bringing.
  • 4 pans
    • Four pans are overkill; one will suffice, so long as someone plans to use it. Mike-burns 15:30, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 metal pitcher with a lid
  • 1 medium-sized pot with a lid and a wire handle than can be hung over a campfire
  • 4 large cups
  • 4 plates
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 cookie sheet
    • This has been in the camping kitchen bag forever, and not once do I remember my mom baking cookies in the woods. Mike-burns 15:30, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 1 large fork
  • 2 large knifes
  • 1 toaster attachment
    • I don't think we need a toaster attachment (owen)
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 potato peeler
    • and I'm not sure about this either (owen)
  • 6 steak knives Char sez: These might be worth bringing.
  • 6 butter knives
    • Seems rather redundant when a steak knife usually works just fine. Mike-burns 22:53, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
  • 8 or 9 spoons
  • 8 or 9 forks
  • 1 dozen egg carrier
  • 1 sponge
  • 1 cutting board

fire permit

  • Char or Owen will pick up fire permits on Friday and Saturday: Beach Commission Office (36 Shore Road, 508-487-6983). No need to call ahead, just stop by office day of between 4 and 6 to pick up permit. No cost.
